Through his exploration of light and texture, Breaux’s artistic style continues to expand as he ventures into the realm of the impressionist and the abstract.

Sunrise & Sunset - Cally Krallman

I have been painting in the Midwest, primarily Kansas, for over 25 years.  I have traveled to many places throughout the world but I am still drawn to the simplistic beauty of Kansas.  Many people think of Kansas as just a flat agricultural state, but in fact it is full of wonderful hills, tree lined rivers and creeks, and other unique land formations.  The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking and calming at the same time.  Our four seasons create a myriad of colors worthy of any artists' palette.

Any artist can see the grandeur of the great mountains and oceans, but to find beauty in the simplest of rocky plains, tall native grasses, back roads, meandering creeks, and fields of grain takes someone who loves the region...loves the plains.

Regional art plays an important role in American history.  I feel it not only records our place in time, but it is a window for others to see the ordinary in a not so ordinary way.  I try to share that in each painting I create.

Selected Works by Juanita Herrell and Carolyn Coffey Wallace

Hawthorn Galleries presents selected works by local artists Juanita Herrell and Carolyn Coffey Wallace. This exhibition is a visual representation of the intertwining life threads of these two friends and artists.

Juanita Herrell started expressing herself through art as a young child. The importance of artistic expression has always been a central element in her life. Today Herrell continues to create pieces that explore her love of both nature and scripture.

Carolyn Coffey Wallace’s history is filled with images of her mother knitting. Her mother was able to take a single strand of yarn and weave it into an article of incredible beauty. Like her mother’s knitting, Wallace visualizes her life as a meandering thread that overlaps the life threads of others in a design of beautiful complexity.

The Painter of Paint - Louise Thies

"My subjects are diverse - landscape, still life, and portraiture, usually executed en plein air, from life or at the very least, studio works aided by those studies. Always, I try to evoke an emotional response from the viewer akin to my own when I first came upon the scene, or when I set up the still life. Often, I'll aim for a hint of a story in the painting, one which causes speculation from the viewer."

New life begins with a cooler time and reason.

Another time, new friends, stir in our hearts within.

And many days will pass as Mother Nature brings each season anew."
