Louise Thies

Please contact Hawthorn Galleries for availability and prices.

Louise Thies’ art habit began early in her childhood in Houston, Texas. Consumed with copying the Mickey Mouse images on her hand-me-down chalkboard instead of practicing the alphabet, her fondness for creating art was clear. For a time, she pursued art as a passion, but her career veered in other directions, until finally coming full circle and colliding.

A hobby turned into a fulltime business when she opened a taxidermy shop in rural Missouri in the early 1980s. Her drive to succeed earned her over thirty awards and the title "Master Taxidermist." While pursuing a degree in biology, she was required to take a humanities class. With two credits to go, an Art Appreciation course compelled her to change majors, start over, and graduate cum laude from Missouri State University with a degree in Art Education.

Today she has chosen to create art, rather than teach, following her passion for plein air painting. “For me, painting is like breathing. It is more than a passion. It is something I must do.”

Louise Thies, who now makes her home near Camdenton, Missouri, is a Signature Member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painter's Society, Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America, Associate Member of the American Plains Artists, and a Signature Member of the Women Artists of the Midwest. In addition to being represented by several galleries across the nation, her work has won numerous awards, and has also been selected for several national juried shows and one-woman shows.
