Artist Statement
My name is Elizabeth Chapman and I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. I have lived the majority of my life in the Ozarks. I have always been involved in some form of creativity.
I consider myself to be a primarily self-taught artist, although I do have a B.S in Art Education from Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo.
Currently, I am working as a professional artist exhibiting and selling my work. It is in the process of evolving and finding its own unique signature. My paintings are authentic and filled with a passion for creating art that captures and speaks to the soul.
It is difficult to categorize my work. I enjoy working with various mediums as well as styles. I would mostly categorize myself as an abstract painter. I work intuitively with one mark leading to the next, then the next and so on. Also, I work expressionistically injecting much feeling and energy into my work.
I also find myself working more realistically as well. This work might be classified as being more impressionistic in my use of color and in the manner in which I am capturing the essence or the impression I have been left with. I can also work at times in the more traditional sense of realism.
In whatever style I find myself working, good composition and design are very important to me. Color, movement and texture are dominant elements that can be found in my work.
To me, the most important aspects are that the work creates a space in time for the viewer, a moment of "awe", and also that it be a work of the highest professional quality.
